Oil price drops to $48, $12 below 2019 budget benchmark

The price of crude oil, yesterday, dropped from $50 to $48 in the international market, showing $12 below Nigeria’s $60 per barrel 2019 budget reference price. Specifically, the price of Brent, West Texas Intermediate, WTI and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, basket of 15 crudes stood at $48.00, $43.38 and $47.92 per barrel respectively. This means that the government projections, especially total revenue projection and expenditure in the budget may not be realised, should the volatility continue in the market. This came as there are indications that Nigeria’s Egina oil will hit the global oil market in February, 2019, according to loading programme. The loading programme obtained by Vanguard showed that the first cargo of the oil grade will be lifted by stakeholders, including Total, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation, CNOOC. Buhari reacts to Aisha’s cabal comment

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said his wife Aisha Buhari’s allegation that his government has been hijacked was baseless and described it as “her business.” Buhari insisted there was no cabal running his government and asked his critics to name one decision taken by the cabal. “That’s her business,” Buhari said during an interview with the Hausa service of Voice of America. “What they are saying is different from what is happening,” “They should come out and say those things they feel was staged managed by the cabal. Okowa signs 2019 budget, says implementation begins immediately

Theophilus  Onojeghen, Warri Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has signed the 390.3 billion 2019 Appropriation Bill into law. Speaking at the signing ceremony attended by the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori and the Clerk of the House, Mrs Lyna Ochulor, Okowa said the implementation of budget commences immediately. The  2019 budget is made of capital expenditure of 233.2 billion Naira and recurrent expenditure of 157.1 billion Naira. He noted that signing of the bill would give his administration room to utilise the dry season to engage in construction and other infrastructural works. Nigerian music star, 2face has unofficially declared Burna Boy’s trending song ‘Ye’ as the song of 2018 Tubaba made this declaration Wednesday night during the Burnaboy’s show, which held at the Convention Centre, Eko hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. 2face who graced the event alongside D’banj had joined Burna Boy on stage during a performance to hail the talented artiste. Badeh: Police postpone presentation of suspects

The Nigeria Police Force on  Thursday postponed the presentation of suspected killers of late former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, to newsmen in Abuja. News men report that the force had on Wednesday said it had arrested alleged killers of Baden which it planned to present to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. Reports also have it that Badeh was killed while returning from his farm along the Keffi-Abuja road on Dec. 18. The force Spokesman, acting  DCP Jimoh Moshood, who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said  five suspects were arrested for  alleged involvement in the crime. Moshood said that the decision to postpone the presentation of the suspects to the media was to prevent other members of the gang from escaping. “It is of significant to note that the presentation of the two suspects and the three other gang members will not come up today so as not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation,“he said. Suspected killer of Alex Badeh speaks, reveals why himself and his gang killed him

The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday, announced it has arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in the killing of a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh. Speaking at a press brifeing today, the Spokesman of the force, Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood, who refused to give the names of the suspects, said two out of the five suspects arrested actively participated in the killing while the remaining three suspects acted as accomplices.  Moshood said the postponement of the parade would help the investigators to arrest fleeing members of the gang. “The suspects arrested actively participated in the killing of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.
